The main advantages of The Pro Series Ultra® over standard guitars:
- The soundboard is made of solid German spruce, which, thanks to heat treatment, simulates the sound of a 15-year aged soundboard. The roundback body is made of high-resonance Lyrachord® Fibercarbon with no right angles, resulting in balanced and stable reflections at all frequencies.
- The strings are wound directly into the body of the pickguard without the use of pegs, giving the guitar a longer reverberation.
- The new OCP-2000 piezo pickup is composed of 6 separate pickups, so the pressure under each string is independent of the pickups. This gives a reliably dynamically balanced sound on each string.
- The new K-21CT active preamp with tuner and 2-band equalizer has the characteristic Ovation sound you know from legendary recordings from the 70s-90s.
- The standard Ovation head shape can be found on all Ovation models. It contains enough mass for high resonance, yet is designed for very comfortable string changes.
- The middle depth of the body - mid depth - is richer in the lower frequencies and delivers a very comfortable playing feel both sitting and standing.

Gitary tejto legendárnej značky sa začali vyrábať v roku 1965 v americkom meste New Hartford v štáte Connecticut. Boli to prvé akustické gitary v ktorých bol osadený piezzo-elektrický snímač, ktorý bol zabudovaný priamo v kobylke, pod každou strunou zvlášť. Táto technológia je patentovaná a dodnes na nevyskytuje v žiadnych gitarách od iných výrobcov.
Ich unikátne akustické vlastnosti sú spôsobené telom, ktorý má tvar "roundback" - teda je oblé, bez pravých uhlov. Použitý materiál nie je plast ale patentovaný carbon fiber - Lyrachord®, ktorý sa bol pôvodne vyvinutý pre výrobu helikoptér. Okrem toho má vynikajúce rezonančné vlastnosti. Gitary Ovation znejú, ako keby boli obohatené o chorus efekt.
Sú to teda jediné naozaj elektro - akustické gitary.
Typické pre tieto gitary sú bočné rezonančné otvory v tvare hrozna. Tie obmedzujú vznik spätnej väzby neprerušujú rezonanciu medzi kobylkou a hmatníkom, resp. nultým pražcom.
Do portfólia značky Ovation patria okrem akustických gitár (s kovovými strunami) aj gitary s nylonovými strunami, 12 strunové gitary, basové gitary, mandolíny a ukulele. V 80tych rokoch vyrobili aj niekoľko prototypov rezofonických gitár, tie sa ale na trhu neetablovali.
Elektrické gitary značky Ovation sa prestali vyrábať v roku 1980, kedy patent piezzo kameňov boli odpredané Leovi Fenderovi, ktorý už vtedy vyrábal gitary MusicMan.
Aktuálne sa vyrábajú 3 veľkosti: Supershellow (tenké, vhodné pre hru v stoji), MidDepth (stredná, štandardná hrúbka korpusu), Deep Contour (široké telo s veľmi basovým zvukom).
Najznámejší svetový hráči na nástroje Ovation: Brian May, Feddie Mercury, Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, Glen Campbell, Steve Lukather (Toto), Yngwie Malmsteen a mnohí ďalší. Prakticky všetky najväčšie svetové hity, kde počuť akustické gitary a ktoré sa zrodili v 70tych až 90tych rokoch, boli nahrávané na gitarách značky Ovation.
